The table below outlines some of the mainstream sources of grants and funding available in SW Wales.

We have supported clients through applications to all of the listed sources except TISS which is a recently launched, sector-specific, partial replacement of the mainstream Single Investment Fund (SIF) to which we had supported many clients' applications.

Overview of some sources of grants & funding

Name: Local Investment Fund (LIF)
Type: Grant, non-repayable
Areas: Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion
Overview of Eligibility: SMEs which are NOT in
agriculture, forestry and fishing, retail, insurance companies, social welfare facilities.
Details: grants in the range £1,000-£35,000 based upon providing 40% of approved project costs.
Note: LIF grant is retrospective; payment in full must be evidenced before a grant claim can be paid.

Name: Pembrokeshire Lottery
Type: Loans, interest-free.
Areas: Pembrokeshire.
Overview of Eligibility: Businesses must be located in Pembrokeshire (the business owner can live outside the county).
Details: Loans in the range £2,000-£35,000 or to a maximum of 35% of the capital required by the identified project (i.e. syndication of finance required). Repayment over 2-5 years, interest free. Small admin and arrangement fees.

Name: Carmarthenshire Lottery
Type: Loans, interest-free.
Areas: Carmarthenshire.
Overview of Eligibility: Businesses of no more than 25 employees and must be located in Carmarthenshire (the business owner can live outside the county).
Details: Loans in the range £1,000-£5,000 or to a maximum of 25% of the capital required by the identified project (i.e. syndication of finance required). Repayment term up to 3 years, interest free. Small admin and arrangement fees.
Note: Projects creating/safeguarding jobs will be given priority. Security likely to be sought where available. For further information phone 01267 221071.
Name: Tourism Investment Support Scheme (TISS)
Type: Grant, probably repayable - decision upon application.
Areas: All Wales - administered by Visit Wales on behalf of Welsh Assembly Government.
Overview of Eligibility: New or exisiting Welsh tourism businesses that wish to upgrade or improve their facilities.
Details: grants in the range £5,000-£300,000 based upon providing a maximum of 25% of approved project costs.

Finance Wales
Finance Wales makes commercial investments in Wales-based SME businesses with the potential to grow.

WRAP Cymru
WRAP Cymru works in partnership with businesses to encourage more efficient use of materials and increase recycling. This helps to minimise landfill, reduce carbon emissions and improve our environment.

The Redundancy Action Scheme
ReAct is a programme of funding for training provided by the Welsh Assembly Government for people living in Wales who are facing redundancy. The scheme can also help Employers who are downsizing their business or are recruiting staff.

ProAct
ProAct is a financial support package provided by the Welsh Assembly Government designed to help viable businesses cope with the downturn. It helps fund training during quiet time to up-skill staff in readiness for the upturn.

R&D Relief for Corporation Tax
HMRC information: Research and Development (R&D) Relief is a Corporation Tax relief that may reduce your company or organisation's tax bill by more than your actual expenditure on allowable R&D costs.
GO Wales
Graduate training & development funding for employers - 50% off the cost of professional training.

Carbon Trust
0% business loans of £3,000 - £100,000 are available from the Carbon Trust to help organisations finance and invest in energy saving projects.

South West Wales Property Development Fund
The Property Development Fund provides financial assistance for the development of speculative commercial and industrial buildings at strategic employment sites within Carmarthenshire, City and County of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot County Borough and Pembrokeshire. The aim of the Fund is to develop high-quality commercial ‘BREEAM Excellent’ buildings in the region. The Fund can provide up to 50% of the costs of developing a site.

Carmarthenshire Business Support Loan
New business loans are being offered to Carmarthenshire companies with expansion and development plans for their businesses which are directed at creating and safeguarding jobs within the County. Business loans will vary from £1000 to £10000 with the maximum loan offer being no more than 50% of total project costs.
